Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave an extensive interview to the British publication The Guardian, in which he commented on the current dynamics of hostilities, the state of international support, and Kyiv's strategy. During the conversation, the head of state voiced a number of points concerning both the tactical situation on the front line and the geopolitical prospects of the conflict.
Situation on the Front and the Isolation of the Kremlin
Assessing the situation on the line of contact, Zelensky stated that the Russian armed forces are currently losing the initiative. According to him, the enemy's advance has practically stopped, and their offensive potential is declining daily. At the same time, the Ukrainian leader clarified that he is not claiming a complete victory or defeat for Russia in the conflict, but is noting a clear decline in activity.
Special attention in the interview was paid to Moscow's international positioning. Zelensky characterized the situation around the Kremlin as growing isolation. "They are isolated... they are alone," the president noted, referring to the lack of support from Europe, the US, and a number of post-Soviet countries.
In addition, Zelensky touched upon Russia's internal politics. In his opinion, Vladimir Putin is building his strategy on disinformation, which serves as a tool for consolidating Russian society. The head of Ukraine added that it does not matter whether this disinformation is the leader's personal delusion or the result of reports from his generals.
Air Defense Problem and US Attention
The issue of international support remains critically important. Zelensky noted that the attention of Washington and Donald Trump has partially shifted to events in the Middle East and the confrontation with Iran. In this context, the President of Ukraine expressed the opinion that the leadership of Russia is trying to manipulate the White House to weaken Kyiv's position.
The main defense deficit for Ukraine at the moment is identified as the American Patriot air defense systems. Zelensky emphasized that it is precisely these systems that are capable of effectively intercepting ballistic missiles. In this regard, he called on European countries to assist in protecting Ukraine's airspace and to accelerate the creation of alternative air defense systems.
Drone Warfare and Strikes on Russia
Separately, the president addressed the topic of technological exchange. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is ready to act as a partner for Western countries, sharing unique and "priceless" experience in conducting war using unmanned aerial vehicles. The UK and NATO countries have already shown interest in this experience.
Regarding the topic of strikes on logistical and energy facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation, Zelensky called this part of a comprehensive strategy. According to him, such actions have not only military but also psychological significance. They are intended to demonstrate to Russian society that hostilities are a tragedy for Russians themselves.
At the time of publication, official comments from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the administration of the President of Russia, or representatives of the White House regarding these statements had not been received.
