On Thursday, June 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy published an open letter addressed to Russian leader Vladimir Putin. In the document, the head of the Ukrainian state presented fresh data on Russian army losses on the front lines during May, as well as proposed a personal meeting.

Figures of Russian Army Losses

According to the report received by Zelenskyy, in May the Russian side suffered losses amounting to more than 30,000 killed and seriously wounded servicemen. The President of Ukraine emphasized that such figures are recorded monthly.

A key point in the message was the assertion that there is video confirmation for every loss. Zelenskyy provided the following statistics on the structure of losses:

  • 63% — killed servicemen;
  • 37% — wounded.

The head of state noted that in the 21st century, modern armies cannot afford such a balance, and in the future, the share of the dead will grow.

Ukraine's Position on the Issue of Losses

In the letter, Zelenskyy explained that Ukraine does not view this data through the prism of sympathy for the enemy, reminding of the heavy consequences of the war for the Ukrainian side. At the same time, he emphasized that for Kyiv, the key issue remains the preservation of its own lives.

"We are losing our people, and every loss causes us pain. And even when the level of Ukrainian losses is one to five or one to six compared to Russian losses, it still matters greatly," the president summarized.

Proposal for a Meeting

In addition to combat statistics, the open letter contains a proposal to hold a personal meeting with Vladimir Putin. This information came from an official source and was confirmed by RBC-Ukraine.
