On Monday, May 25, a key political event will take place in Kyiv: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will hold a meeting with the parliamentary faction 'Servant of the People'. This is a continuation of a series of intensive consultations aimed at synchronizing the actions of the executive and legislative branches amidst the ongoing war.
Continuing the Dialogue on the Country's Future
The meeting is not an isolated event. As early as last Wednesday, the head of state discussed critically important agenda items with representatives of the majority and the Head of the President's Office, Kyrylo Budanov. The main focus was shifted to Ukraine's long-term sustainability and its integration into the European Union. Faction leader David Arakhamiya confirmed that work in an expanded format will be a priority for the current week.
Security in the North: Preventive Measures
The political dialogue takes place against the backdrop of an intensifying operational situation. Earlier, Zelenskyy warned of five scenarios for the possible expansion of hostilities in the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction. In response to this threat, defense forces have already been reinforced. Since May 21, large-scale counter-intelligence operations have begun in the border regions — Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, as well as in Volyn and Rivne. The SBU and military are actively identifying and neutralizing sabotage groups.
Kyiv's position is unequivocal: weakness is the main prerequisite for escalation. The response to new challenges must be such that the adversary loses the desire to create new foci of aggression.
European Vector and Criticism of Berlin
An important agenda item remains European integration. Zelenskyy sharply criticized Germany's proposal to grant Ukraine the status of an 'associate' member of the EU without voting rights. The President called such an idea unfair, insisting on full-fledged equal membership.
Against the backdrop of these events, advisor to the President's Office Mykhailo Podolyak voiced a forecast: the active phase of the war could end as early as this autumn if the summer offensive of Russian troops completely fails.
