On the night of July 2, Ukraine was subjected to a large-scale combined strike by Russian forces. The main target of the attack was Kyiv, where Russian forces used an unprecedented number of air weapons. According to RBK-Ukraine, a total of 570 units of weaponry were deployed: 496 kamikaze drones and 74 missiles of various types. The attack was carried out using air, ground, and sea-based carriers.
Destruction in the capital and the President's statement
The consequences of the night attack were catastrophic for the civilian infrastructure of the Ukrainian capital. Strikes were recorded at more than 30 locations across all districts of the city, with damage inflicted in seven administrative districts. Among the affected objects are residential buildings, which recorded direct hits.
The State Emergency Service (SES) published footage of the aftermath. The photos show large-scale fires in multi-story residential buildings, private housing, and warehouse facilities. In particular, a three-story non-residential building housing an emergency medical station caught fire in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Due to the intensity of the strikes, power was cut off in parts of the city.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally visited the site of the enemy strike in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv. Assessing the situation, the President stated that Ukraine stands for a just peace and a dignified end to the war. However, he emphasized that until peace arrives, the country will deliver "justified responses" to aggression.
"Russia will face a response for today's strike on Kyiv — this is certain," the head of state declared at the site of the destruction.
