Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated the necessity of holding the heads of the state defense concern "Ukrenergo" accountable. The reason for the head of state's harsh statements was the tragic consequences of a Russian missile strike on a military depot in the city of Vishneve in the Kyiv region.
Responsibility for weapon placement
In his official Telegram channel, the president emphasized that law enforcement agencies have already identified the officials who approved the storage of ammunition in an unprotected location. According to Zelenskyy, it was the officials of the concern who allowed the placement of weapons on the object that became the target of the attack.
"It is known who and in what positions in Ukrenergo allowed the placement of weapons there. Each of them must be held to fair accountability," the head of state declared.
Zelenskyy confirmed that those guilty of such negligence face dismissal and criminal cases. The president noted that the attack hit precisely the composition of the defense concern, which made the consequences of the strike catastrophic for the civilian population.
Large-scale audit of facilities
To prevent the recurrence of such tragedies, Volodymyr Zelenskyy ordered the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and other law enforcement agencies to conduct a large-scale inspection of similar facilities across the country. The president demands that local enterprise heads guarantee the safety of weapon storage.
"The SBU, together with other guardians of order, must check other similar enterprises, and every enterprise head at their level must guarantee that such tragedies are not repeated," Zelenskyy emphasized.
Consequences of the attack in Vishneve
Recall that the incident occurred on the night of July 6, when Russian troops attacked a train with ammunition. As a result of the strike, a secondary detonation occurred, causing massive destruction. Not only the military object suffered, but also the city's civilian infrastructure.
According to the latest data, almost 300 residential buildings were damaged as a result of the explosions. The number of deaths resulting from the tragedy has risen to nine people. After the first reports of the attack, the president had already ordered the special services to urgently investigate all circumstances of the incident, which led to the current conclusion regarding the negligence of the concern's leadership.
