On the afternoon of September 30, 2026, Russian occupation forces launched a large-scale air attack across Ukraine, deploying various types of unmanned aerial vehicles, including jet drones and Gerbera-type loitering munitions. According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, between 06:30 and 18:30 alone, the use of 285 attack UAVs was recorded. The massive raid covered multiple regions of the country, posing a serious threat to critical infrastructure and civilians.
Effectiveness of Air Defense Operations
Thanks to the coordinated and prompt work of Ukraine's air defense units, the vast majority of aerial targets were successfully repelled. According to preliminary official reports, during the specified period, air defense forces shot down and suppressed 254 drones using electronic warfare. Among them, 146 destroyed jet drones were recorded, accounting for more than 80% of the total number of launched devices of this type. Experts note the high technological sophistication of modern enemy attacks, which requires Ukrainian defenders to continuously improve interception methods.
Current Situation in Airspace
Despite the colossal results achieved by anti-aircraft gunners and mobile firing groups, the threat has not been completely eliminated. As of 18:30, about 10 enemy attack drones are still being tracked in Ukraine's airspace, maneuvering across various regions. The military urges citizens not to ignore air raid alerts and to remain in safe shelters until the official all-clear is given. In addition to drones, the launch of a ballistic missile and several Banderol and Danyu-T UAVs was recorded in the eastern direction, with consequences currently being clarified.
Context and Escalation of Airstrikes
It is worth noting that the current attack is a continuation of a series of intensive air strikes on Ukrainian cities. Last night, Russian invaders already used anti-ship and ballistic missiles, as well as UAVs, when air defense forces destroyed 160 enemy targets. A day earlier, on September 29, the adversary deployed 112 attack drones. Such dynamics indicate the aggressor's desire to exhaust Ukraine's air defense system through regular combined shelling.
