Against the backdrop of escalating aerial threats and the widespread use of unmanned systems, the Ukrainian defense industry is betting on a technological alliance. European company Alta Ares and Ukrainian interceptor drone manufacturer 'General Cherehnya' have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The goal of the partnership is to create an advanced Counter-UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) system by integrating artificial intelligence into combat platforms.

The agreement is a response to the challenges of modern warfare, where traditional targeting methods often become ineffective due to the active use of electronic warfare (EW) measures and the lack of satellite navigation.

Technological Symbiosis: Pixel Lock and Cyclop C2

The essence of the cooperation lies in the implementation of two key software solutions from Alta Ares into the Bullet interceptor drone, developed by the 'General Cherehnya' team. The integration will cover all stages of the interceptor's flight:

  • Pixel Lock: A computer vision and AI-based solution designed for the final targeting phase. The system automatically detects, identifies, and tracks aerial targets in real-time using data from multiple sensors.
  • Cyclop C2: A system providing targeting support during the transit phase of flight, i.e., when approaching the target area.

The combination of these technologies is intended to ensure uninterrupted operation of the interceptor even in conditions of complete GPS jamming and complex weather factors.

Reality Check: Why This Matters

The uniqueness of this partnership lies in combining cutting-edge algorithms with a platform that has already been tested in real combat conditions. The Bullet drone is used on the front lines, where the absence of GPS and active enemy electronic warfare have become the norm.

"Bullet is already being used in real combat conditions. Lack of GPS, complete signal jamming around us — for us, this is a normal workday. Pixel Lock and Cyclop C2 ensure more accurate targeting precisely under such conditions, which means more hits and fewer misses," noted Stanislav Gryshin, co-founder of 'General Cherehnya'.

He emphasized that the cooperation allows for the creation of not just a prototype, but a ready-made product needed by the army today. Alta Ares provides a powerful AI component, while 'General Cherehnya' provides a reliable hardware base.

Strategic Move and Investment Background

The signing of the memorandum coincided with an important stage in Alta Ares' development — the raising of €50 million in a Series A funding round. This made the agreement a significant milestone for both companies and a step towards strengthening European-Ukrainian cooperation in the defense sector.

Alta Ares CEO Adrian Canter highlighted the importance of combining the experience of using interceptors in Ukraine with technologies that reduce dependence on satellite navigation. "Integrating Pixel Lock and Cyclop C2 into Bullet allows us to test this approach directly under the conditions for which such systems are designed," Canter stated.

The cooperation takes place against the backdrop of increased support for Ukraine's defense-industrial base from the European Union, in particular through the Ukrainian Support Loan (USL) mechanism. Alta Ares, founded in 2024, is already operating in Europe, the US, and the Middle East, offering comprehensive air defense solutions. 'General Cherehnya', founded after the start of the full-scale invasion, has become one of the leaders in interceptor drone production, relying on constant feedback from the front.

The next stage will be the practical integration of software into the Bullet platform and further field testing of the system. The success of this project could become a benchmark for future developments in the field of autonomous defense systems.
