Anthropic has officially unveiled its new development—the updated language model Claude Sonnet 5.5. The main advantages of the novelty are a 30 percent increase in operating speed and a significant reduction in token consumption, which makes the process of writing code and automating tasks much more economical for developers and enterprise clients.

Background and Lineup Evolution

Recall that the previous iteration of the popular lineup, the Sonnet 5 model, appeared on the market only about three months ago and was remembered by users for its ability to effectively deploy autonomous agents. Despite the fact that in the overall hierarchy of Anthropic products, the Sonnet lineup is inferior in pure flagship power to the Opus series models, it traditionally outperforms them in flexibility, response speed, and optimization for highly specialized use cases.

Breakthrough in Autonomous Coding

During independent and internal autonomous coding benchmarks, the new Sonnet 5.5 model demonstrated outstanding results, in a number of tests outperforming even older configurations due to its ability to simultaneously create multiple autonomous agents without exceeding strict budget limits. The company's first major partners have already evaluated the benefits of the upgrade in practice, noting unprecedented stability in solving large-scale engineering tasks.

"The new model handled tens of thousands of lines of code regarding game system architecture, provided instant responses, performed tasks that lasted for hours, and worked with fewer rigid prompts," shared Daniel Vogel, Chief Operating Officer at Epic Games, regarding his experience using the new algorithm.

Controversial Data

It is worth noting that while most specialized sources and official developer representatives emphasize exclusively vertical growth in performance and a reduction in costs by exactly 30 percent, some AI market experts point out nuances in the testing methodology. According to a number of independent analysts, actual token savings heavily depend on the specifics of the given task and can range from 14% (as confirmed by Slack engineers) to the stated maximum indicators in complex programming scenarios.

Partner Assessments and Market Context

Key technology giants integrating Anthropic solutions into their products also shared their opinions on the release. "Without changing a single one of our prompts, Claude Sonnet 5.5 performed better than Sonnet 5 in almost all of our offline Slackbot evaluations, completing the task in fewer steps and with approximately 14% fewer tokens in the input data," said Curtis Allen, Principal Engineer at Slack.

The announcement from Anthropic took place against the backdrop of extremely high competitive activity in the generative artificial intelligence market. Recall that shortly before this, OpenAI released updated versions of its Sol and Luna models aimed at the budget and middle segments, and Meta announced a new system to support smart glasses. In the coming weeks, Anthropic also plans to present an updated version of its smallest and most affordable model, Haiku.
