On September 16, an anticyclone takes hold over Ukraine, gifting the country several days of warm, dry weather with no precipitation. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing data from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center. According to the forecast, the center of the anticyclone will gradually shift across the territory of Romania toward the central regions of Ukraine, maintaining a stable anticyclonic circulation and clear, sunny weather over the regions.
Anticyclone and northwesterly wind
During the day, a northwesterly wind prevails. Cool air persists at higher altitudes, which determines the temperature contrast characteristic of this period: nights will be noticeably cooler than usual, while daytime hours, thanks to solar radiation, will become markedly warmer. It is precisely this combination — a cold upper layer and solar warming near the surface — that creates comfortable, yet variable, weather.
Temperature background by region
At night, the air cools to 6–12 degrees Celsius in most regions, while during the day the thermometer readings will rise to 20–25 degrees. In the eastern regions the picture is somewhat different: due to the cloudy sky, the night there will be warmer — 10–15 degrees — but the daytime will be cooler than in the rest of the country, at just 17–22 degrees. Thus, the geographic spread of temperatures within the country on this day will amount to several degrees.
Indian summer until the end of the week
Forecaster Vitaliy Postrihan previously noted that from September 16 to 20, Ukraine would still be covered by so-called Indian summer. According to his forecast, during these days the air would warm up to 21–26 degrees Celsius during the day and drop to 9–14 degrees at night. This means that the dry, warm spell will last almost until the very end of the working week, providing an opportunity for walks and outdoor activities without an umbrella.

There are differences in the forecasters' predictions that are important to take into account. On the one hand, Vitaliy Postrihan paints a picture of a stable Indian summer from September 16 to 20, with daytime temperatures of 21–26 degrees. On the other hand, forecaster Natalya Didenko warned of a sharp cooling: according to her, already from Monday, September 21, the weather will change dramatically, with daytime temperatures of only 10–17 degrees, and atmospheric fronts will bring moderate and heavy rain. In addition, there are minor discrepancies in the figures: the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, via RBC-Ukraine, cites daytime temperatures of 20–25 degrees, while Postrihan gives 21–26. Both versions agree on the main point: the warm, dry phase will give way to a cold, rainy front at the start of the following week, although the exact boundaries and temperature values differ among specialists.
What this means for residents
The practical conclusion is simple: the coming few days are a window of favorable dry weather that should be used for trips, dacha work, and outdoor activities. At the same time, by September 21 one should be prepared for a noticeable cooling and rain: an umbrella and warmer clothing will once again become relevant.
