On October 18, civil infrastructure objects near Lviv were damaged in the Lviv region as a result of an attack using a Russian drone. According to information published by the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, on Telegram, air defense forces shot down a Russian UAV over the settlement of Malekhiv at around 11:20. As a result of falling debris, a warehouse building caught fire on the territory of a logistics complex, and the complex itself sustained damage. At the time of the official announcement, no information about casualties had been received.
Chronology of events and air defense operations
According to the regional military administration, the incident unfolded in the first half of the day. At around 10:30 in the neighboring settlement of Murovane, debris from a Russian drone shot down by air defense fell on residential areas, damaging two private houses. Slightly later, at approximately 11:20, another drone was shot down over Malekhiv, which led to a fire on the territory of the logistics facility. Thus, within less than an hour, the consequences of air defense operations intercepting aerial targets were recorded in two different locations of the Lviv community.
Damage to the logistics complex in Malekhiv
The main center of damage was a warehouse building of the logistics complex in Malekhiv, on the territory of which a fire broke out after the fall of debris. According to Kozytskyi, fire departments and other emergency services are working at the scene, dealing with the containment of the fire and assessing the damage. Officially, there were no reports of human casualties or injuries at the time of publication, which was noted as the absence of relevant data at the time of the notification.
Statement by the Mayor of Lviv: perforated roof of an industrial building
Additional details about the consequences of the attack in Malekhiv were provided by Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi. According to him, a piece of debris from the downed Russian drone pierced the roof of a civilian industrial building. As a result, an entrepreneur's property was damaged over an area of about 100 square meters. Sadovyi emphasized that, fortunately, no one was injured, and relevant services continue to work at the scene to record the damage and ensure safety.
Damage to residential houses in Murovane
In addition to the consequences in Malekhiv, impact consequences were also recorded in Murovane. According to Kozytskyi, at around 10:30, debris from a Russian drone damaged two residential houses. Information about the nature of the damage and the presence of victims among the residents of these houses was not disclosed in the official message, but the fact of damage to two residential buildings was confirmed by the regional military administration.
Context: repeated strikes on Malekhiv
The incident on October 18 was not the first such case in this area. As Ukrainian media recall, on October 13, a Russian jet drone fell in Malekhiv near Lviv after air defense operations, resulting in damage to private houses and one reported injury. The repetition of attacks in the same direction within a week indicates a persistent load on the air defense system in the Lviv suburbs and the ongoing vulnerability of the region's civil and logistics infrastructure.
Services' response and current status
Firefighters and other specialized services are working at the sites of both incidents—in Malekhiv and Murovane. The priority tasks at the current stage are extinguishing the fire on the territory of the logistics complex, assessing damage to industrial and residential stock, and monitoring potential casualties. Officials of the Lviv region continue to publish updates as information arrives from emergency services.
