On Monday evening, October 26, during a Russian airstrike on Kyiv, the Auchan Chernihivska store, located in the Prospekt shopping and entertainment complex, was damaged. The retail chain itself announced this, and the information was confirmed by Ukrainian media, in particular RBC-Ukraine. As of the morning of October 27, the company emphasizes that no one was injured in the incident—neither among visitors nor among staff.
Chain's statement and nature of the damage
An official statement from Auchan Ukraine states that the Chernihivska store was damaged precisely during the enemy attack on the evening of October 26. The company specifically emphasizes the absence of casualties and indicates that the current priority is assessing the condition of the premises. At the incident site, as seen in footage from the parking level of the shopping complex, destruction and impact marks are visible, along with the presence of rescue services, which corresponds to the nature of the damage reported by the retailer.
Temporary closure and restoration plan
The store is temporarily closed. As the company explained, its reopening has been postponed until the assessment of the premises' condition and necessary restoration work are completed. The network promised to provide additional information on the timeline for resuming operations at Auchan Chernihivska. Thus, the location will remain unavailable to customers until specialists confirm the safety of the facility and complete repairs.
Auchan in Ukraine: scale of presence
As a reminder, the international retail chain Auchan was founded in France in 1961 and has been operating on the Ukrainian market since 2008. According to the company, Auchan has physical stores in five cities in Ukraine—Kyiv, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Dnipro, and Odesa—and also operates the auchan.ua online store with nationwide delivery. According to available information, Auchan employs about 3,500 staff in Ukraine and offers over 200 different professions. According to financial statements in open sources, for the end of 2025, the revenue of Auchan Ukraine Hypermarket LLC amounted to about 10.03 billion UAH, while the company's loss increased to 835.8 million UAH compared to 579.6 million UAH the previous year.
Context: attacks on facilities in Kyiv
The damage to Chernihivska occurred against the backdrop of a series of Russian attacks on Kyiv's infrastructure. During the same period, according to media reports, other chain locations in the capital were damaged during nighttime strikes without casualties—specifically, Auchan Bilychi and the store in Lavina Mall, which also temporarily suspended operations pending damage assessment and restoration. In each case, the retailer confirmed the absence of casualties and the postponement of reopening for the time necessary for repairs. The combination of these incidents shows that attacks continue to affect not only critical infrastructure, but also daily life objects, including large shopping complexes in central Kyiv.
