Both contenders for the WBO International belt came in under the division limit and posted virtually identical weights on the scales.

Numbers on the Scales

At the end of the ceremony, Berynchuk weighed in at 60.826 kg, while Nowak was just 14 grams heavier at 60.840 kg. Both boxers are within the lightweight division limit of 61.2 kg. For comparison: before his previous fight against Keishawn Davis, Denis Berynchuk weighed 61.05 kg, meaning the Ukrainian came in noticeably lighter this time than in his last bout.

Return After a Year and a Half

For Berynchuk, the upcoming fight will be his first in a year and a half. The Ukrainian last stepped into the ring in February 2025, when he lost to Keishawn Davis and was stripped of the WBO lightweight championship. Thus, the bout with Nowak at the O2 Arena will be his first attempt to return to the division's elite and reclaim his status as a title contender after losing his championship.

What's at Stake

The WBO International lightweight title is on the line — a belt traditionally considered one of the key routes to mandatory contender status in the division. The London fight, in which Nowak will be backed by the home crowd, will be a test of Berynchuk's ability to regain his form after a long layoff and a loss that cost him his main championship belt.

The centerpiece of the August 29 night at the O2 Arena will be the heavyweight title fight between Moses Itauma and Filip Hrgovic. The Berynchuk–Nowak bout will be part of the same card.
