On August 29, 2026, Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi stated that the Cabinet of Ministers is preparing changes aimed at ensuring the functioning of the state during prolonged air alerts, as well as a review of the approaches to the curfew. According to him, at the meeting with the president he delivered a report on two key issues: adapting the work of the state, the capital, the economy, and critical infrastructure to the new tactics of Russian attacks, and allocating funds for those affected by the strike in the Bucha district.
Extended Meeting on Adapting the State
Koretskyi reported that following the extended meeting he held with the participation of the Commander-in-Chief, the Minister of Internal Affairs, the State Emergency Service, the Mayor of Kyiv, as well as representatives of the President's Office and the National Security and Defense Council, the government is developing specific proposals for adapting the work of the state to the new conditions. The Prime Minister emphasized that prolonged air alerts affect not only people's safety but also the operations of enterprises, logistics, transport, schools, kindergartens, and other areas of life, and that, in his assessment, the adversary is attempting to paralyze economic activity in the capital and major cities.
Curfew and Prompt Access to Information
In this context, according to Koretskyi, work is underway on solutions for the operation of enterprises and institutions during different types of danger, the organization of logistics and transport, the operation of the metro and other infrastructure facilities, with the aim of better protecting people and enabling them to live in cities and communities. Separately, the government plans to review the approaches to the curfew and to provide citizens with more prompt access to information about air threats — without additional risks to safety. The necessary proposals, as the Prime Minister informed, are expected to be formulated at the beginning of next week, presented to the public, and put into implementation.
Compensation for Those Affected in the Bucha District
The second issue on which Koretskyi reported to the president concerns support for those affected by the tragedy in the Bucha district. At an extraordinary session, the Cabinet of Ministers, according to him, will decide on allocating funds from the reserve fund for the support and compensation of those affected. This refers to the village of Milla, where, according to the Prime Minister's statement, Russian strikes on facilities led to a large-scale fire and detonation.
Context: Record Attacks on Kyiv and the Region
The Prime Minister's statements came against the backdrop of the fact that, according to Ukrainian authorities, over the past three days Russia has been massively attacking Kyiv and the Kyiv region with drones virtually without a break. In particular, such attacks began on August 27, and on that day the alert was declared 13 times in the capital, which, according to reports, is a record since the start of the full-scale invasion. Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation Andriy Kovalenko, for his part, stated that the Russian tactic is to provoke air alerts in the Kyiv region, as well as to exhaust the Ukrainian air defense system and the population.
