Substances found in the actress's body
Among the identified compounds were fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid, as well as 4-ANPP, a chemical byproduct associated with the manufacture of fentanyl. In addition, the body was found to contain alprazolam (known by the brand name Xanax, used for anxiety and panic disorders), metocarbamol — a muscle relaxant prescribed for muscle spasms — and quetiapine — an antipsychotic medication used to treat a range of mental disorders. It was the combined toxic effect of this combination, according to the coroner, that led to the fatal outcome.

Hayden Panettiere died on August 16, 2026, in Greenville, where she was temporarily staying at the time. A call to emergency services came in at approximately 13:51 due to cardiac arrest. Medical personnel performed resuscitation efforts, but the actress could not be saved — death was pronounced at 14:32.
