A major reshuffle is brewing in the Ukrainian government that could radically alter the power structure within the security block. One of the main intrigues of the upcoming "reboot" of the Cabinet of Ministers remains the fate of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. RBC-Ukraine has gathered current information on who might take his place and how these changes will affect the course of the war.

Who could replace Fedorov?

Information about a possible change in leadership at the Ministry of Defense appeared in the Telegram channel of the "Servant of the People" deputy Olga Vasilevskaya-Smaglyuk. According to her, the current head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, is being considered for Fedorov's position. In turn, the position of Minister of Internal Affairs could be taken by Ivan Vyhovskyi, who currently heads the National Police.

However, the situation remains unclear: numerous RBC-Ukraine sources in various government bodies cannot yet confirm or deny the information about Fedorov's resignation. There have been no official statements from the President's Office or the Minister himself yet.

Relations with Zelenskyy and pressure from the general staff

Previously, RBC-Ukraine reported on tense relations between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Defense Minister. Some interlocutors of the publication claimed that trust between them had cooled, while others denied the existence of serious disagreements. Nevertheless, the "Servant of the People" party believes that the possible dismissal of Fedorov will be a signal of the victory of the general staff in the confrontation with the civilian leadership of the Ministry of Defense.

At the same time, it is worth noting that during comments on the resonant events with the TCC in Lviv, Zelenskyy emphasized: the Ministry of Defense must fulfill all promises regarding the mobilization reform. This may indicate that the key tasks of the department remain a priority regardless of personnel changes.

Reforms have already been launched — they cannot be stopped

According to an RBC-Ukraine source, even if Fedorov leaves, the reforms he initiated have already been launched, and the new head of the Ministry of Defense will not be able to abandon them. Moreover, the reshuffle is unlikely to affect the course of the war — the army will continue to carry out its tasks, and strategic decisions will be made at the level of the President and the National Security and Defense Council.

Context of the government "reboot"

On Sunday, Zelenskyy unexpectedly announced a massive "reboot" of the Cabinet of Ministers and the law enforcement system. According to media reports, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko could be appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA, and the new head of the government will be the current head of "Naftogaz", Serhiy Koretskyi. These steps testify to the President's desire to update the team and strengthen control over key sectors.
