On July 31, a mode of temporary power rationing was introduced across the entire territory of occupied Crimea. The official announcement came from "Krymenergo" following an order from the dispatcher of the Black Sea Regional Dispatch Center (a branch of PJSC "SO UES").
Threat of a major accident
The occupation authorities of the peninsula are trying to convince the population that the measures taken are forced and inevitable. In a statement, "Krymenergo" emphasized that restrictions are necessary to prevent the overload of the power system. According to the Russian occupiers, Crimea currently faces a major accident that could affect the entire network.
The authorities do not hide that the situation is beyond their full control. "Since the decision to cut off power was made by the system operator, there are no exact hourly schedules for the districts of the electric networks. Blackouts will be carried out selectively and as needed," the official document states.
No schedules or dates
Residents of the region are facing a period of instability. "Krymenergo" admitted that it cannot name the exact date and time for the cancellation of restrictions. This means that power outages will be chaotic, reacting to the current load on the network.
The situation with infrastructure on the peninsula remains tense. Recently, RBK-Ukraine reported on an "explosive" night in Crimea when fires broke out and part of the territory was left without electricity. Furthermore, the Defense Forces of Ukraine paralyzed movement on a key logistics highway, significantly hindering the movement of vehicles and cargo across the peninsula. Earlier, the occupation authorities were forced to introduce a rationing schedule for mobile communications as well.
