The developed system combines memory modules with a powerful language model, enabling the detection of anonymous cross-border transactions that previously remained hidden from law enforcement.
Technology vs Blockchain Anonymity
The lead author of the study, Dr. Sun Jingchao, an expert in cybersecurity and criminal investigation, described the new development as a precise and explainable solution. According to him, the system offers an innovative roadmap for regulators fighting economic crimes in the digital sphere.
Traditional investigative methods often prove powerless against the complex structure of the blockchain. Criminals use tactics such as splitting money flows, routing through multiple transaction layers, and using money-mixing services (mixers) to erase any traces. The new artificial intelligence system is capable of detecting unusual patterns in these operations that the human eye or outdated algorithms easily miss.
Rise in Prosecutions and 2025 Statistics
The development of this new tool comes against the backdrop of Beijing's intensified crackdown on cybercrime. Statistics from China's Supreme People's Procuratorate for 2025 demonstrate the scale of the problem: 3,259 individuals were held accountable for money laundering related to cryptocurrencies and shadow banking.
Experts note that the implementation of such monitoring tools will increase the effectiveness of the fight against financial crimes. However, they also warn that the use of AI must be accompanied by a clear legal framework that ensures a balance between national security and citizens' right to privacy.
China as a Leader in AI Research Publications
Beyond practical applications in security, China is demonstrating activity in fundamental research. An analysis by Stanford University, covering the period from 1998 to 2025, revealed an interesting trend among 317 AI startups valued at over a billion dollars.
Almost two-thirds of leading Chinese companies in this field regularly publish open-access research and actively use open-source models. In comparison, more than half of their American counterparts do not publish scientific papers meeting the required standards. This indicates that China is not only implementing technologies but is also actively sharing development results with the global scientific community.
