On the night of September 7, the City Mall shopping and entertainment center in Zaporizhzhia was effectively destroyed as a result of a Russian drone attack. According to the owner, Arricano, three Shahed-type drones hit the building, after which a large-scale fire broke out in the complex. According to the developer, there were no casualties. "On September 7, City Mall in Zaporizhzhia was effectively destroyed as a result of a Russian strike. Fortunately, there were no casualties," a representative of Arricano stated, as reported by RBC-Ukraine citing the company.
Scale of the Damage
Judging by the footage from inside, the consequences of the strike are catastrophic: ceiling structures and shelving units have collapsed, fragments of cladding with the company's branded inscriptions "Gastronomiia" and "Kulinariia" lie on the floor, along with decorative elements in the form of clouds and stars. City Mall is the largest shopping and entertainment complex in Zaporizhzhia: its retail space exceeds 23,400 square meters, whereas the city's second-largest mall, "Aurora," has a retail space of about 10,000 square meters. A reminder of the growing danger came even before the strike: on September 2, against the backdrop of the current security situation, City Mall temporarily suspended operations until the end of September.
Pledge to Restore the Facility
Arricano acknowledged that the destruction of City Mall was a heavy blow for the shopping center's team, its tenants, and the hundreds of people who worked there. At the same time, the company emphasized that it plans to restore the facility. "We will continue to make every effort to restore City Mall and provide the city's residents with the goods and services they need," the developer stated. The company also noted that for many years its team and shareholders have been trying to keep shopping centers operating in frontline cities: repairing damaged facilities, restoring their operations, and bringing people back to their jobs.
Second Hit in Three Weeks
The strike on City Mall was already the second hit on Arricano's facilities in the past three weeks. On August 21, the "Sunny Gallery" shopping complex in Kryvyi Rih was destroyed as a result of a drone attack. Thus, in a short period of time, the company lost the operation of two major retail facilities in different regions, which underscores the systemic nature of the risks for commercial real estate in frontline and border cities.

There is an inconsistency in the chronology among the set of verified sources. RBC-Ukraine, Interfax, and 24 Channel consistently describe September 7 as the date of the effective destruction of City Mall and record the pledge to restore it. At the same time, the headline of one of Interfax's articles states that "Arricano resumed the operation of City Mall shopping center in Zaporizhzhia and the 'Sunny Gallery' shopping center in Kryvyi Rih." This wording is inconsistent with the destruction of the complex on September 7 and the suspension of its operations from September 2, and probably refers to an earlier news cycle (resumption after the August damage) or contains a dating error.
