The Ukrainian banking sector demonstrates stable growth in consumer lending in 2026. According to the National Bank of Ukraine, over the first eight months of the current year, the volume of loans issued to individuals in hryvnias increased by 25.65% to reach UAH 372.44 billion. The largest growth in loan portfolios over this period was recorded at OTP Bank, Idea Bank, PUMB, Ukrsibbank, and Universal Bank. Against this backdrop, RBC-Ukraine published its annual ranking of the best credit cards for 2026, determining the market leaders based on a combination of customer conditions.
Ranking Leaders: Which Cards Received the Highest Scores
According to the ranking results, the top credit cards of 2026 include products from PUMB, Idea Bank, and monobank. The top five also featured «100 Days 2.0» from Raiffeisen Bank and SMART CARD from Ukrsibbank. The evaluation criteria included the loyalty of lending terms, the size of the available credit limit, the duration of the grace period, the minimum monthly payment level relative to the average market rate, as well as the quality of online service and mobile applications. Thus, the highest scores were awarded to cards that combine favorable financial conditions with convenient digital support.
Digitalization: A Card in the App Instead of Visiting a Branch
A significant number of banks today offer digital credit cards with limits that are issued directly within a mobile app and immediately connected to Apple Pay or Google Pay payment systems. «For the client, a digital card means quick access to a financial instrument, fewer extra steps during application, and the ability to manage the card through a mobile app. For the bank, it represents the development of remote servicing and optimization of the card issuance process,» explained Vitaliy Mohyliev, Director of the Digital Banking Department at Idea Bank. According to him, clients expect not just access to a credit limit, but a convenient tool for daily payments, transparent lending terms, and additional benefits. Among notable trends, he highlighted the development of cashback programs, offer personalization, the expansion of remote application capabilities, and the improvement of mobile apps.
What Drives Client Choice in 2026
As noted by Igor Klets, product owner of the online lending team at OTP Bank, having a grace period and a high limit is no longer enough to issue a credit card today. A client is unlikely to choose a product without a user-friendly mobile application. In addition to basic terms, additional benefits such as discounts, cashback, and loyalty programs are becoming decisive. Banks, in turn, are actively improving digital sales channels and expanding the functionality of card products to retain and attract active users.
Forecast for 2027: Stable Rates and the Battle for Activity
Sebastian Rubai, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Raiffeisen Bank, predicts that credit card interest rates will remain stable at current levels in the near future. «Banks will continue to optimize tariffs toward simplification. Seasonal and partnership promotions will become the main tool in the fight for activity,» he stated. Financial experts surveyed by RBC-Ukraine agree that credit cards will remain one of the flagship products for individuals in 2027. «A credit card is a tool of flexibility. It allows you to bridge cash flow gaps between revenues, make necessary purchases without touching savings, and maintain a financial cushion for unforeseen expenses. Moreover, daily purchases with a card bring additional benefits in the form of cashback and partner bonuses. Timely repayment also builds a positive credit history,» Vitaliy Mohyliev summarized.
Thus, the Ukrainian credit card market in 2026 is undergoing a stage of mature transformation: the 25.65% growth in lending volumes over eight months confirms steady demand, while competition among banks is shifting from price wars to the realm of digital experience, personalization, and ecosystem advantages. For the consumer, this means a wider choice of products with transparent terms and a minimal entry threshold.
