On Thursday, November 5, the cash foreign currency market in Ukraine showed heterogeneous rates: the cost of the US dollar and the euro varies depending on the exchange location — specialized currency exchange booths, bank branches, or cashless card transactions. According to Minfin, as of the morning of November 5, the dollar is bought at exchange booths for 46.20 UAH (a 20-kopeck decrease) and sold for 46.42 UAH (a 41-kopeck increase). The euro is bought at exchange booths for 51.80 UAH (a 20-kopeck decrease) and sold for 52.15 UAH (a 65-kopeck increase). Thus, the spread between buy and sell rates in the cash segment remains a key factor determining the final exchange cost for the client.

Average Rates in the Banking Sector

In the banking sector, quotations are more moderate than in exchange booths, which is traditionally due to lower operational costs and the availability of cashless payments. The average dollar rate in banks on November 5 is 45.48 UAH for purchase and 46.14 UAH for sale. The average euro rate in banks is 50.98 UAH for purchase and 51.81 UAH for sale. The difference between average bank rates and exchange booth rates is approximately 20–30 kopecks for each major currency, making the banking channel attractive for those not limited to cash transactions.

Quotations at Major Banks: PrivatBank, Oschadbank, PUMB, Monobank

Among individual banks, the picture is also mixed. PrivatBank sells dollars at branches for 46.05 UAH (a 5-kopeck decrease), and for card transactions — for 46.08 UAH (unchanged); the euro at bank counters costs 51.80 UAH (a 10-kopeck increase), and the card rate is 51.81 UAH (unchanged). Oschadbank sells dollars via its mobile app for 45.85 UAH (a 25-kopeck decrease), while the rate for card transactions is 46.15 UAH (a 10-kopeck decrease); the euro via the app is 51.55 UAH (a 20-kopeck decrease), and for cards — 51.85 UAH (unchanged). PUMB sells dollars for cash exchange at 46.00 UAH (a 20-kopeck decrease), and its commercial sell rate is also 46.00 UAH; the euro at branches is 51.70 UAH (unchanged). Monobank sells dollars for 46.01 UAH (a 4-kopeck decrease) and the euro for 51.80 UAH (a 5-kopeck increase).

Context and Disclaimers

The indicators from November 5 should be viewed in perspective: earlier this year, the dollar rate in exchange booths and banks fluctuated in a lower range, highlighting the volatility of the cash market and the dependency of quotes on current conditions. The variation between channels — exchange booths, bank counters, and mobile apps — means that the final exchange cost for a specific user is determined not only by the nominal rate but also by the chosen payment method.
