On Tuesday, September 8, as a result of a daytime attack by Russian occupiers on the capital of Ukraine, an office building caught fire in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv. According to preliminary data from the Kyiv Military Administration, the cause of the fire was the fall of debris from an enemy drone onto a four-story office building. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and medical teams were sent to two districts of the capital — Shevchenkivskyi and Solomianskyi, as announced by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Daytime strike and fire in Solomianskyi district
The Kyiv Military Administration confirmed that a fire broke out in an office building in the Solomianskyi district as a result of enemy shelling. The mayor clarified that, according to his information, the fire is minor in nature; however, damage caused by the fall of drone debris has been recorded in the building. Preliminary reports indicate that there are injured people as a result of the incident, which confirms the seriousness of the consequences even given the relatively localized nature of the fire.
Response of emergency services and evacuation of people
Immediately after receiving the alarm about the fire, crews of emergency services were dispatched to the scene. Klitschko reported that medical teams were sent to the Shevchenkivskyi and Solomianskyi districts. At the same time as the fire was being extinguished, the evacuation of people from the upper floors of the damaged building continued. Photographs from the scene show ambulances with emergency service numbers, as well as law enforcement officers ensuring order near the damaged facility.

The daytime attack was a continuation of the massive nighttime strike on Kyiv and the Kyiv region. According to data as of the morning of September 8, the nighttime attack damaged at least 14 multi-story residential buildings, as well as a school, a polyclinic, a supermarket, and a gas station. The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal case on the grounds of a war crime. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that during the nighttime strike, Russian occupiers deliberately sought to inflict maximum damage on the peaceful population of the capital. Later, Interior Minister Ivan Vyhyvskyi reported that the number of injured as a result of the combined attack had risen to 16.

Discrepancies in the scale of the consequences are recorded in the statements of the parties and in the materials of various media outlets. Thus, the Kyiv Military Administration and Mayor Klitschko characterize the fire in the office building in the Solomianskyi district as "minor," while a number of media outlets, citing data from other districts of the city, report significantly more extensive destruction — in particular, the burning of dozens of cars on Obolon and injuries to pedestrians on Podil. In addition, the official figures for the injured (16 people according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs) refer primarily to the nighttime combined attack, while information about the injured in the daytime fire in the Solomianskyi district remains preliminary and does not match in volume the total losses from the nighttime strike. Different sources also assess the number of fatalities and the overall damage differently, so the final data may be revised as the investigation and emergency services continue their work.
