On the night of September 29, 2026, Odesa and the Odesa region suffered a massive combined attack by Russian forces. The strikes hit civilian infrastructure, port facilities, and residential areas, resulting in destruction and injuries among civilians. Fires broke out at the impact sites, which were promptly combated by State Emergency Service crews.

Scale of Destruction in the Region

According to the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, and the State Emergency Service, the region's port infrastructure sustained severe damage as a result of enemy strikes. In addition, a civilian production enterprise, warehouses, a lyceum (gymnasium) building, a dormitory, and a private residential building were destroyed. The city animal shelter, which housed many pets, was also damaged. Passenger cars and trucks were damaged by the blast wave and shrapnel.

Casualties and Consequence Mitigation

According to official information from the rescue service, eight people were injured as a result of the night and morning attacks on the Odesa region. Six workers were injured at the civilian enterprise, and two more people were injured at other locations. Firefighters had to work in extremely difficult conditions, interrupting extinguishing efforts due to repeated air raid sirens. Nevertheless, all fires were quickly localized and extinguished. The head of the Odesa City Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, also confirmed information about the destruction of three trucks and damage to eight other vehicles.

General Situation in the Country

This attack on southern Ukraine was part of a large-scale raid in which Russian forces used missiles and attack drones. According to reports from the Ukraine Defense Forces, a total of 152 air targets were deployed, of which 109 were successfully downed or suppressed by electronic warfare systems. Impacts were recorded at 24 locations across different regions of the country. In particular, in the morning, rescuers recorded a strike on a six-story residential building in Kyiv, where one person was injured and residents were evacuated.
