Ukraine continues to systematically build up its air defense and electronic warfare capabilities, paying special attention to protecting critical infrastructure from UAV strikes. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a regular meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, where the key topics were countering Russian strike drones and scaling domestic technological developments.

The Role of Electronic Warfare in Sky Defense

During the meeting, specialized experts presented detailed reports on the capabilities of domestic electronic warfare systems and their practical application to cover strategic facilities. The Head of State emphasized that this particular defense component ensures the neutralization of a significant portion of enemy Shahed-type UAVs. Following the discussion, additional tasks were defined for both the Armed Forces of Ukraine and national manufacturers, and the most effective engineering approaches will be scaled nationwide.

Technological Challenges and Sanctions Pressure

A separate item on the agenda was a report by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on the technological priorities of the Russian army for 2026–2027. GUR experts analyzed the supply channels of critical components and equipment used by the aggressor's military-industrial complex to produce new types of weapons. In response, the Ukrainian side is preparing new sanctions packages to be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers and the National Security and Defense Council, and synchronized with international partners.

Mirror Response Strategy and Long-Range Drones

The most important area of work remains providing the defense forces with long-range drones to deliver retaliatory strikes on enemy territory in 2027. The President emphasized that the main criterion for effectiveness here is Ukraine's ability to give a mirror response to Russian attacks. In parallel, government officials and the military command continue working on strengthening defense lines for key facilities and concluding new defense contracts with international partners.
