In Ukraine, the cost of obtaining a higher medical education continues to rise, and the specialty of dentistry firmly holds the lead in terms of contract price. The 2026 admission campaign has shown record figures: tuition in some universities already exceeds 130,000 hryvnias per year.

According to data from the Unified State Electronic Database on Education Issues, the price range for medical education in the current academic year is huge. The cost depends on the prestige of the educational institution and the region, however, a general trend towards price increases is characteristic of all universities.

Record prices: from Lviv to Zaporizhzhia

The absolute leader in terms of tuition cost for the 2026/27 academic year is the Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University. The university set the contract price at the level of 130,000 hryvnias per year. This makes studying at one of the leading medical universities in the country one of the most costly investments for future students.

At the same time, the most affordable offers come from regional universities. For example, Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University offers education at the lowest price among the published data — 48,050 hryvnias per year. The difference between the most expensive and the cheapest option exceeds 80,000 hryvnias, which puts applicants in a difficult choice between budget and geography of study.

General trend of price increases in leading universities

The rise in prices for medical education is not limited to dentistry only, but it is most noticeable in this field. Kharkiv and Kyiv universities have also significantly revised their price lists.

Vasyl Karazin Kharkiv National University increased the cost of tuition for the 2026-27 academic year by almost 40%. Such a sharp jump significantly affects the accessibility of education for applicants in the region.

The situation is similar in the capital. At Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the cost of tuition for 2026 has increased by almost 27%. Now the most expensive specialty in this university costs 119,000 hryvnias per year, which brings the price close to the record indicators of the Lviv Medical University.
