The National Bank of Ukraine has published the official exchange rates for Thursday, October 8, 2026, recording a noticeable decline in the value of both the US dollar and the European currency. The regulator's data indicate a market correction following recent historical highs, when quotes approached the 45 hryvnia per dollar mark and broke record milestones for the euro.
Official Exchange Rate Dynamics
According to the updated NBU data for October 8, the official US dollar exchange rate is set at 44.86 UAH, which is 8 kopecks lower than the previous day when the American currency was valued at 44.94 UAH. The European currency demonstrated a more significant drop: the official euro exchange rate fell by 48 kopecks at once, reaching 50.15 UAH compared to 50.63 UAH on October 7. Experts attribute this dynamic to market fluctuations and the regulator's actions aimed at smoothing out sharp spikes.
NBU Influence Instruments and Expert Assessment
According to Taras Kozak, founder and president of the UNIVER investment group, the National Bank has all the necessary levers and sufficient capabilities for effective control and influence over Ukraine's currency market. In his commentary, the expert emphasized that the regulator's resource base could increase significantly if the Verkhovna Rada passes a package of bills in accordance with international obligations to the IMF and the EU. This will unlock large-scale external financing, the volume of which by the end of the current year could exceed 20 billion dollars.
Foreign Exchange Reserves Outlook and Rate Stability
An additional stabilizing factor is the NBU's own forecasts, according to which the country's gold and foreign exchange reserves should reach maximum levels by the end of the year. According to Taras Kozak, thanks to a stable inflow of international aid and sound monetary policy, including the recent increase in the discount rate to 16%, the regulator will maintain full control over the situation. The NBU has every opportunity to curb and predictably regulate the hryvnia exchange rate in the long term.
