The National Bank of Ukraine has updated official exchange rates for Tuesday, October 27, 2026, setting another historic maximum for the American currency. The dollar rose by 33 kopecks to reach 45.53 hryvnias, while the European currency came close to 51 hryvnias, climbing to 50.95 hryvnias.

Exchange Rate Dynamics and New Indicators

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, the official dollar exchange rate stood at 45.20 hryvnias on Monday, October 26, after which quotes crossed a new milestone. The official euro exchange rate also showed steady growth: compared to the previous banking day when the European currency cost 50.57 hryvnias, the increase amounted to 38 kopecks. The financial market continues to respond to macroeconomic imbalances and external challenges.

Foreign Trade Deficit and Energy Factor

As Taras Lesovyi, Director of the Financial Markets and Investment Department at Globus Bank, notes, a significant excess of imports over exports remains the key driver of devaluation processes. During the first nine months of this year, merchandise imports to Ukraine exceeded 75.1 billion dollars, while exports totaled nearly 29.6 billion dollars, creating a negative balance of over 45 billion dollars. Additional pressure on the market is exerted by global energy prices and rising fuel import costs amid regular attacks on energy infrastructure.

Inflation Impact and Economic Consequences

The situation in the currency market is compounded by accelerating inflation within the country. In September, consumer prices rose by 2.1%, and annual inflation reached 10%. According to preliminary estimates, price growth in October could reach up to 2%, bringing annual inflation to 11.2%. Experts agree that the ongoing war remains the fundamental cause of the persistent pressure on the hryvnia.

Currency Market Outlook

The future behavior of the hryvnia exchange rate will depend on the volume of international financial assistance, the state of the regulator's gold and foreign exchange reserves, and the recovery rate of the national economy. Overcoming psychological barriers demonstrates the market's readiness for new realities, but the preservation of the trade deficit will continue to dictate trends in the medium term.
