A serious incident involving a civilian vessel occurred in the Black Sea, near the Russian port of Novorossiysk. The cargo ship Nadezhda became the target of an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles. As a result of the strike, a fire broke out on board, and crew members sustained serious injuries.

Chronology and circumstances of the incident

The attack took place on Monday evening. At the time of the strike, the vessel was approximately 20 nautical miles from the Russian coast. The ship was traveling along a route from Novorossiysk to the Turkish port of Samsun. According to eyewitness accounts and reports, the drone strikes hit the bow section of the ship, where the bridge is located. It was in this sector that the fire broke out, causing the injuries.

Consequences and rescue operation

As a result of the attack, three crew members sustained serious injuries. Despite the difficult situation, the rescue operation was successful. According to the Turkish Maritime Administration, all 22 sailors, including the injured, were evacuated. The crew was brought to Russian territory for medical assistance and further investigation of the circumstances.

Security context in the Black Sea

The incident involving the vessel Nadezhda is not an isolated case under current conditions. Previously, the Russian container ship Yanina sank in the Black Sea following an attack by Ukrainian drones. This vessel belonged to the company FESCO, which is part of the state corporation Rosatom.

The escalation of tensions is forcing the parties to review safety regulations. As reported by Bloomberg, Russia is considering equipping grain carriers with additional protective measures, including machine guns and armor, as well as engaging military escort to ensure grain exports.

At the same time, restrictive measures are being introduced in ports. In particular, a temporary ban on vessel movement at night was introduced in Novorossiysk—from midnight to 5:00 a.m. This measure was taken due to the threat of new drone attacks on ships at anchor or in port.
