The GUR reported a night strike on Novorossiysk: the frigate Admiral Essen — a carrier of Kalibr missiles used by Russia against Ukraine — was hit. This is not the first attack on the ship in 2026.

On September 8–9, the Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck a Russian 'Mangust' patrol boat in Sevastopol, a drone launch base in Donetsk, and intelligence targets, and also delivered a strike on Novorossiysk.

The burnt Russian cargo vessel 'Omsky-107', attacked near Novorossiysk, was carried to the shores of Şile, Turkey, where it ran aground. The crew abandoned the ship in lifeboats immediately after the attack.

MSC has suspended new bookings in Novorossiysk after Ukrainian drones attacked the container ship MSC ULSAN III. The company recommends that clients seek alternative routes until the situation stabilizes.

Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Plekhanchuk stated that Russia is suffering nominally greater losses than Ukraine in the Black Sea, and that grain shipments from Novorossiysk are, according to him, approaching zero.
