In the center of Kyiv, on one of the busiest streets — Bolshaya Vasylkivska — a serious traffic accident occurred. As a result of a collision between two premium-class cars, one of them flew onto the pedestrian zone, destroying elements of a restaurant's summer terrace. The incident, which took place on the afternoon of August 17, 2026, caused a wide resonance in social networks and the media, especially after the identity of one of the participants in the accident became known.

Chronology and circumstances of the collision

According to the Kyiv police, the accident occurred around 11:30. Two BMW SUVs were involved in the crash. According to surveillance camera footage, a 36-year-old driver of a BMW X3 was leaving a secondary road. At that moment, he ignored the requirements of the road signs "Yield" and "Turn right", which led to a head-on collision with a BMW X7 driven by a 31-year-old man.

Due to the force of the impact, the violator's SUV lost control. The car was thrown onto the sidewalk, where it crashed into the fence and furniture of the establishment's summer terrace. Fortunately, there were few visitors on the terrace at the time of the accident, and among them, as well as among passersby, no one was injured. The material damage to the restaurant is assessed as significant, however, the exact amount of damage will be determined after an expert examination.

Condition of the victims and police actions

The only victim of the incident was the driver of the BMW X3. He sustained injuries and was hospitalized in satisfactory condition. Doctors are conducting necessary examinations, as well as taking tests to check for alcohol content in the blood. The driver of the second vehicle, the BMW X7, was sober at the time of the accident and did not suffer serious injuries.

Law enforcement agencies have already begun to check all the circumstances of the incident. The police are studying surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses. After the investigation is completed, a legal qualification of the actions of the participants in the accident will be given. In the event of confirmation of the fact of driving a vehicle while intoxicated or a gross violation of traffic rules, the culprit faces serious criminal liability.

Criminal figure behind the wheel: media version

Particular interest in the accident was caused by reports from RBC-Ukraine sources that the driver of the car that flew into the restaurant was the well-known criminal figure Kirill Ostrovsky. This information, although not officially confirmed by the police, is actively discussed in the media space. If the data is confirmed, this will become another loud episode in the biography of the figure, who has previously been held accountable for various offenses.

Contradictory data

While the police officially report the fact of the accident and the hospitalization of one of the drivers, sources in the media provide additional details about the identity of the participants. Thus, some publications name the names and statuses of the drivers, including the mention of a criminal figure and the director of the UAF department. However, the police have not yet commented on these claims, citing the need to complete the check. This creates a situation where the official version and information from independent sources partially diverge, requiring further fact-checking.

Context: rise in accidents in Kyiv

This accident was not the only tragedy on the roads of Ukraine in recent days. Earlier, in the Odesa region, on the Odesa-Nikolaev highway, a fatal collision of a cargo van with two minibuses occurred. As a result of the accident, three people died, and another seven were hospitalized. These incidents highlight the need to tighten control over compliance with traffic rules and increase driver responsibility.
