In Ukraine, not all women are required to wait until they turn 60 to start receiving pension payments. For certain categories of citizens, the state has provided the possibility of receiving a pension as early as 50 years of age. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing explanations from the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU).

Who can retire at 50

According to the Law "On Mandatory State Pension Insurance", the right to early retirement by age is granted to two specific categories of women. The only mandatory condition for both groups is having a work record (insurance seniority) of at least 15 years.

The PFU provided a specific example to clarify the situation: a woman who adopted a child with a disability at the age of five asked if this grants the right to early retirement. The department responded that the key factor is documentary confirmation of the mother's status, as well as the fact that the child's disability was established before the age of six.

Thus, the right to early retirement by age after reaching 50 years is held by:

  • Women who have given birth to five or more children and raised them to the age of six.
  • Mothers of persons with disabilities from childhood who have raised them to the specified age.

In the presence of all necessary documents, the fund may grant early retirement by age.

Work record economics and inheritance of payments

For those planning a standard retirement at 60, the conditions are becoming stricter. In 2026, to retire, one will need to have at least 33 years of insurance seniority. If this figure is not reached, the missing year of seniority can be purchased for past periods. The cost of such a procedure is approximately one thousand dollars.

Experts have calculated that these expenses pay off in about nine months of receiving payments, making the procedure profitable for those on the verge of retirement age but falling short on the timeline.

Lawyers pay special attention to the situation regarding the inheritance of pensions. In some cases, relatives of a deceased pensioner are denied payment of uncollected funds due to the lack of joint registration with the deceased. In such situations, the right to inheritance can be proven through the court, and the Pension Fund's refusal can be appealed in an administrative manner.
