On the night of July 16, the capital of Ukraine was subjected to a massive strike by ballistic missiles. As a result of the shelling, residential areas were damaged, and among those who found themselves in the epicenter of the events was the famous Ukrainian actress Elena Lavrenyuk. The star of the series "Coffee with Cardamom" and "All Shades of Temptation" exclusively for RBC-Ukraine told about how the night went and showed the consequences of the attack on her home.
Explosions at one o'clock
The attack began suddenly. The first explosions occurred around one o'clock in the morning and lasted for half an hour. According to the artist, the air raid alarm sounded only a minute before the start of the shelling, which left no time to prepare for shelter.
"I heard an explosion, and almost immediately the glass began to fall. Everything happened so quickly that I simply did not have time to react or hide," Lavrenyuk admitted. The realization of what was happening came to her only some time after the first explosion.
Damage to the house
The actress's house hall was most damaged, where large panoramic stained-glass windows were installed. According to Elena, a missile was shot down over the building, which led to such extensive damage.
"They completely shattered. It was a very large volume of glass, so it damaged everything that was nearby," she described the situation. Fortunately, no one in the house was injured.
Refusal of compensation
Despite the significant damage to property, Elena Lavrenyuk decided not to apply for state compensation. The actress emphasized that now this help is needed by people who are in a more difficult situation.
"No. There are people who need this help more now. We will cope and install the windows ourselves," explained the star of Ukrainian cinema.
Results of the attack in Kyiv
The consequences of the Russian strike were recorded in the Darnytskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts of the capital. According to city authorities, two people were killed as a result of the attack, and the number of injured is being clarified. The State Emergency Service reported two dead and six injured, but Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko clarified that there were five injured.
Call for caution
Concluding the story of the night event, Elena Lavrenyuk appealed to Ukrainians with a call not to neglect their own safety.
"Take care of yourself. Do not ignore air raid alarms. And I really want them to always sound on time," the actress emphasized.
