Google has officially confirmed the date for ending support for its classic voice assistant, Google Assistant, on mobile devices. Starting September 4 of this year, the service will be forcibly disabled on smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, making way for the new generative model, Gemini.
Transition Details
It was previously reported that Google planned to end Assistant's operations by the end of 2025. However, the company has decided to accelerate the process, granting the service only a short extension to finalize and stabilize the functionality of the new AI assistant. This decision will affect most modern devices operating within the Android ecosystem.
It is important to note that the full transition to Gemini will not happen simultaneously for all devices. Google Assistant will temporarily remain on some gadgets where integrating the new model requires additional technical adjustments.
Fundamental Changes in Control
Switching assistants signifies a radical change in the principles of interacting with gadgets. While Google Assistant executed basic commands based on a rigid and predetermined algorithm, Gemini operates as a full-fledged language model, invoking specific tools to perform tasks.
