Ukraine is expected to experience a sharp change in weather conditions, which should put an end to the prolonged anomalous heat that has engulfed the country at the beginning of August 2026. According to forecasts from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, extreme temperatures will be replaced by comfortable summer values, however, this process will begin with the passage of a dangerous atmospheric front accompanied by thunderstorms and squalls.

Forecast for August 8–9: Thunderstorms and Squalls

Natalia Ptukha, Head of the Media Relations Department of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, warned in an interview with RBC-Ukraine that as early as today, August 7, the atmospheric front begins to affect the territory of the country. Currently, its passage is observed in western Ukraine, and the front is moving eastward, affecting the northern and central regions.

In the Kyiv region and central areas, the passage of the front is expected in the second half of the day, which will be followed by rains of varying intensity — from moderate to heavy. Tomorrow, August 8, moderate, locally heavy thunderstorms are forecast for most regions. Experts note that this is a typical atmospheric reaction to preceding high temperatures: accumulated energy contributes to the development of powerful cumulonimbus clouds. Meteorologists urge citizens to follow safety rules during thunderstorms, as squalls and even hail are possible.

End of heat and 'tropical nights'

It is expected that as early as tomorrow during the day, the atmospheric front will move away from the western regions, passing through the northern, central, and partially southern regions. By August 9–10 (Sunday-Monday), the front will exit the eastern border of Ukraine. After this, an anticyclone — a field of high atmospheric pressure — will begin to influence the country's territory again, bringing rain-free weather and sunny clearings.

The main change will be the replacement of the air mass. The strong heat will begin to recede, although in the next 24 hours in the south and east, temperatures may still reach +35...+37°C. However, starting Sunday, nights will become cooler in most regions (+12...+17°C), and daytime temperatures will settle in the range of +24...+29°C. In Zakarpattia, the south, and the east, it will be slightly warmer: nights around +18...+23°C, days +28...+33°C.

Weather for next week

Next week, the weather will be predominantly shaped by an anticyclone. Only on the day of August 11 (Tuesday), local short-term rains and thunderstorms are possible in some western and northern regions due to the passage of a small, inactive atmospheric front. Otherwise, the week promises to be calm, practically without precipitation.

The temperature background will return to 'standard' values for August: at night +15...+22°C, during the day +27°C... up to +33°C (sometimes higher in the south and east). This means that the period of extreme heat, which was observed in the country since the end of July, is coming to an end.

Contradictory data

Although the main forecast of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center indicates an imminent cooling, there are nuances in various sources regarding the timing and intensity of changes. Some analysts, citing data on 'tropical nights', suggest that in the southern and eastern territories, comfortable temperatures may be established with a delay of 1–2 days compared to the center of the country.

Furthermore, there are discrepancies in the forecasts for August 11: some sources indicate a complete absence of precipitation, while others allow for the possibility of local downpours in the west. This is due to the high dynamics of atmospheric processes during the transition period when one front replaces another. Nevertheless, the general trend towards temperature reduction and weather stabilization is confirmed by all meteorological services.
