Against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities in the Sumy region, another piece of disinformation from Russian authorities has surfaced. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation spread information that the village of Nova Sych in the Yunakovka community allegedly came under the control of Russian troops. However, the Ukrainian side promptly refuted these claims, calling them another lie.
Official refutation from the "Kursk" grouping
The "Kursk" grouping of troops officially stated that the settlement of Nova Sych is under the full control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The statement emphasizes that the information disseminated by the Russian Ministry of Defense does not correspond to reality and is part of an information campaign to distort the real situation on the front.
"We officially inform that the information disseminated by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation about the alleged 'capture' of the settlement of Nova Sych in the Yunakovka community is another lie and does not correspond to reality," the grouping emphasized.
Disinformation tactics: distraction from defeats
Ukrainian military personnel point out that such statements are a long-standing practice of Russian occupiers. In their opinion, such fakes are intended to distract the attention of the Russian population from successful Ukrainian strikes and their own defeats on the front.
"Unable to stop Ukrainian deep strikes and middle strikes, such as, for example, the recent strike on the Khalyne airbase, Russian generals are forced to paint themselves virtual 'victories'," the Armed Forces noted.
Recent examples of disinformation
This is not the first time the Russian side has tried to mislead the public. Previously, similar fakes were spread about the capture of the village of Rozhdestvenka in the Zaporizhzhia region, the settlement of Ternovate, and even Glushkovka in the Kharkiv region. In all cases, Ukrainian military personnel promptly refuted these claims, confirming that control over the territories remains with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Appeal to media and citizens
The "Kursk" grouping of troops called on representatives of the media and citizens not to succumb to manipulation and to trust only official messages from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. "In the conditions of an information war, it is important to maintain critical thinking and verify information," Ukrainian military personnel emphasized.
The situation around Nova Sych once again demonstrates how important it is to rely on verified sources in the conditions of a modern information war.
