Residents of Chernihiv are facing changes in public transport: starting October 3, 2026, a new tariff grid for bus and trolleybus fares will be introduced in the city. The corresponding official announcement was published by the Transport, Transport Infrastructure, and Communications Department of the City Council. Citizens will need to adapt to a differentiated payment system that directly depends on the payment tool used.

Reasons and Economic Factors for Tariff Review

The need to revise fare prices is driven by objective economic factors faced by transport enterprises. The main reasons cited include a significant increase in the cost of fuels and lubricants, as well as an increase in other operational expenses directly related to the safe and uninterrupted transportation of passengers. Amid modern economic challenges, local authorities are forced to strike a balance between maintaining the operability of transport infrastructure and protecting the interests of passengers.

Conditions for Beneficiaries and Students

Despite the price increases, local authorities have preserved all statutory benefits for socially vulnerable categories of citizens, who will be able to use transport under existing rules. Special attention is paid to schoolchildren: for students of general education institutions in Chernihiv, the fare is fixed at 8 hryvnias in both buses and electric transport. To use this benefit, it is necessary to pay with a student transport card and have a physical student ID with you.

Discount System and Benefits of Transport Cards

The new tariff grid encourages passengers to switch to cashless payments. The lowest fare will traditionally apply when paying for trips using a transport card, which also retains the convenient option of a free transfer within 30 minutes. According to calculations by the relevant department, making two trips a day for 22 working days using a transport card will provide tangible savings compared to cash payments: about 220 hryvnias per month on bus routes and up to 264 hryvnias per month on trolleybus lines.
