Operations to extinguish a forest fire continue in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Exclusion Zone. Emergency services have managed to bring the situation under control and localize the main hotspots. Despite the large-scale operations, the radiation background in the area of the incident remains within acceptable limits.
Progress of Fire Extinguishing
According to information from the State Emergency Service (SES), published in the department's Telegram channel, the fire covered the grass cover, forest litter, and fallen timber in the Kyiv region. Thanks to the prompt actions of specialists, it was possible to prevent the further spread of fire to significant areas.
The situation remains dynamic: rescuers continue to monitor the area to eliminate the risk of re-ignition. Work is being carried out taking into account all safety measures characteristic of working in the exclusion zone.
Radiation Control
Special attention is paid to monitoring the radiation situation during the extinguishing. SES specialists conduct continuous monitoring of indicators. According to the department, at the moment, the radiation level does not exceed the established permissible norms. Monitoring of the situation will continue until the complete completion of all liquidation measures.
History of Fires in the Zone
This is not the first fire in this area in recent times. Earlier, on July 10, another fire situation was completely liquidated in the Chernobyl zone, which lasted for two weeks. Then, rescuers also managed to prevent the spread of fire, keeping the situation under control throughout the operation.
