“Flamingo” reached Volgograd: sanctioned plant and facilities in five regions hit

On the night of September 11, Ukrainian defense forces struck the “Volgogradpromproekt” enterprise in Volgograd with FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missiles. As reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the company’s Fire Point Telegram channel, the missiles were confirmed to have hit the target, triggering a fire on the enterprise’s premises. The attack was part of a series of nighttime strikes on targets within Russian territory.

Target of the strike: a sanctioned plant

According to participants in the conflict, LLC “Volgogradpromproekt” is under US sanctions for its work for the Russian military-industrial complex. Fire Point emphasized that, in their assessment, it was precisely the sanctions that proved most effective, and the strike on the enterprise is viewed in that context. In photographs published in open sources, the enterprise building with the “VOLGOGRADPROMPROEKT” sign is visible.

Context of the nighttime strikes

That same night, drones attacked the chemical giant “Azot” (“Uralkhimprom”/“Uralchem”) in Berezniki, Perm Krai — an enterprise that produces ammonia and nitric acid, which, among other things, are used in the manufacture of explosives. Kaspiysk and Samara were also hit: in Kaspiysk, according to preliminary data, drones struck the port, while in Samara residents heard explosions and the operation of air defense systems. As RBC-Ukraine previously reported, drones also attacked Saratov, where a refinery and an OZON marketplace warehouse caught fire after the strikes.

Contradictory data

The versions offered by the sides following the nighttime strikes differ significantly. The Ukrainian side (RBC-Ukraine, Fire Point) reports a confirmed hit by “Flamingo” missiles on the “Volgogradpromproekt” plant and a resulting fire. At the same time, a number of Russian publications, in particular a piece on news.mail.ru, construct the opposite picture, speaking of the “destruction of NATO warehouses and a ‘Flamingo’ workshop,” which represents a counter-narrative not confirmed by primary Ukrainian sources. The scale of the actual damage to the Volgograd enterprise has not been confirmed by independent data as of the time of publication.
