Rail transport in Ukraine remains one of the key modes of transportation for millions of citizens. For certain categories of the population, "Ukrzaliznytsia" has established a system of benefits that allows for significantly reduced ticket costs or even free travel. The conditions depend on the passenger's status, disability group, and time of year.

Benefits for people with disabilities

According to information from the carrier's press service, persons with disabilities, as well as children with disabilities and their accompanying persons, are entitled to significant preferences. During the period from October 1 to May 15, a seasonal benefit is in effect: a 50% discount on travel with no limit on the number of trips.

Separate rules apply to people with disabilities resulting from the war:

  • Group I and II: have the right to one free round trip per year ("outbound" and "return"). Additionally, they enjoy a seasonal 50% discount from October 1 to May 15 without a limit on trips.
  • Group III: can travel for free once every two years (round trip) or once a year with a 50% discount. Additionally, a seasonal 50% discount also applies to them during the winter period.

Support for companions and veterans

The state also cares for those who assist people with disabilities. Companions of persons with disabilities resulting from the war, as well as participants of World War II aged 85 and over, receive a 50% discount on one round trip within 24 hours during the accompaniment. During the period from October 1 to May 15, this discount applies without restrictions.

Participants of combat operations (PCO) have the right to a free round trip once every two years or one trip per year with a 50% discount. Parents of deceased or missing servicemen also receive a 50% discount on travel in passenger trains of all categories.

Which trains offer benefits

It is important to note that the mentioned benefits apply to a wide range of rolling stock. Discounts and free travel are available in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class carriages of "Intercity+", "Intercity", "Regional Express", and "Regional" train categories.

Additional services and updates

In addition to preferential tariffs, "Ukrzaliznytsia" continues to develop infrastructure and services. Domestic trains operate under clear rules for transporting pets and birds. Requirements depend on the size of the animal and the type of carriage: some require a cage, while others require the vestibule or purchasing the entire compartment.

The carrier is also updating its carriage fleet. Recently, new domestically produced carriages were added to popular routes to Uzhhorod and Dnipro, increasing comfort, especially for passengers on upper berths. Furthermore, new children's carriages have entered service, where rules for free travel for toddlers may differ depending on the direction—domestic or international.
