Ukraine's major gas station chains updated their fuel price lists for the second time within 24 hours on September 17. According to RBC-Ukraine, the price increase in several chains affected both gasoline and diesel by as much as 2 hryvnias per liter. As a result, consumers effectively faced two waves of price hikes in a single day, a notable signal in the domestic fuel market.

Ukrnafta: two increases in 24 hours and premium diesel on par with private chains

The state-owned Ukrnafta network, which has traditionally acted as a stabilizing factor for fuel prices in the country, raised fuel prices twice: in the morning and after lunch. In the morning, all gasoline grades and diesel went up by 1.00 UAH/l, and after lunch by a further 2.00 UAH/l. The final price of A-95 gasoline in the network reached 86.90 UAH/l, and diesel fuel — 97.90 UAH/l. Notably, premium diesel at Ukrnafta hit the 99.90 UAH/l mark — exactly the same price as in large private chains, which effectively eliminates the state operator's price advantage in this segment.

SOCAR: A-95 gasoline exceeds 93 hryvnias

Another major chain, SOCAR, also raised prices twice during the day. A-95 gasoline went up by 2.00 UAH/l after lunch, reaching 93.90 UAH/l, while the NANO 95 grade reached 96.90 UAH/l. Thus, the gap between the state and private chains for basic gasoline came to about 7 hryvnias per liter, reflecting the operators' differing pricing policies.

WOG and OKKO: morning increase confirmed

The WOG and OKKO chains, which raised their price tags on the morning of September 17, held prices at the updated level by evening without making any additional adjustments. This means that for customers of these chains, the daily increase amounted to a single hike, unlike at Ukrnafta and SOCAR, where the price revision took place in two stages.

Contradictory data

While gasoline and diesel were getting more expensive in most chains, a number of sources record discrepancies regarding autogas. In particular, the headline of a novosti.ua publication dated September 18 states that "Ukrnafta is cutting gas prices," whereas OKKO, conversely, is raising them. The RBC-Ukraine article, on which the main text is based, focuses on the rise in gasoline and diesel prices, and the dynamics for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) across specific chains are not detailed. Thus, the picture for gas is uneven: one chain may see a decline while another sees a rise, and the blanket assessment that "fuel is getting more expensive" does not fully apply to autogas.

Context: A-95 gasoline approaches 90 hryvnias

As of September 17–18, the average price of A-95 gasoline in Ukraine's major chains ranges from 86.90 to 93.90 UAH/l depending on the operator. Experts note that the approach of the basic grade to the 90-hryvnia-per-liter mark — a psychological threshold — may influence consumer behavior and demand for alternative fuels, including autogas and electric vehicles. The double intraday price adjustments recorded on September 17 point to high market volatility and, likely, to a review of procurement contracts or logistics terms at the operators.
