Germany has sponsored a large-scale procurement of combat drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to Reuters, Berlin will finance the delivery of 50,000 Shrike kamikaze drones produced by the Ukrainian company SkyFall. The contract amount, confirmed by the project's technology partner CEO Lorenz Meyer, is approximately 90 million euros.

Technologies for autonomous engagement

The key feature of this batch of drones is the integration of software from the American defense technology company Auterion. This software enables the drones to independently track and destroy moving targets at the final stage of flight, which is critical for modern warfare. Auterion acts as the key technology partner, providing the intelligent component for Ukrainian "hardware".

Scale of deliveries and timelines

According to Auterion representatives, some of the drones have already been transferred to the Ukrainian government. The remaining batch is scheduled for delivery by the end of the current year. Lorenz Meyer also stated that within the framework of this initiative, funded by Western countries, a total of 100,000 drones will be delivered over the course of a year. This program also includes a separate Pentagon contract worth $50 million.

Growth in international demand

The Shrike drone, which the Ukrainian army has been using since 2023, has become one of the most sought-after models on the market. Its effectiveness is confirmed not only on the front lines but also in international tenders. The Shrike 10-F modification, developed jointly with the British company Skycutter, took first place in the initial stage of the Pentagon competition. This competition is part of a $1.1 billion program providing for the purchase of hundreds of thousands of disposable combat drones.

SkyFall confirmed Germany's participation in the project but declined to disclose details of the deal. Official comments from the Ministries of Defense of Ukraine and Germany on this matter have not yet been received. Nevertheless, this order is considered one of the most significant in the history of Western aid to Kyiv in the field of unmanned technologies.
