Ukraine's Ministry of Health has updated its report on the state of the country's medical infrastructure amid Russia's ongoing full-scale aggression. According to official data from the ministry, since the start of the invasion, Russian forces have destroyed or damaged 2,687 medical facilities. These include hospitals, polyclinics, paramedic and midwifery stations, and other institutions affected by shelling and other combat operations. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the Ministry of Health.
Scale of the destruction
The recorded figure of 2,687 facilities reflects the cumulative damage inflicted on the healthcare system over several years of war. The Ministry of Health emphasizes that the attacks continue to pose a direct threat to the operation of medical institutions and to citizens' access to healthcare. Some facilities are partially damaged and require repair, while others have been completely destroyed and need large-scale restoration or the construction of new buildings in their place.
Operation of the system in wartime conditions
Despite the damage, Ukraine's healthcare system continues to function. Where possible, institutions are being restored and brought back into service; in other cases, patient care is provided in alternative premises, and patient flows are redistributed among working facilities. This approach helps maintain a basic level of healthcare accessibility even in regions subjected to shelling.
Reconstruction priorities
The ministry identifies the restoration of medical infrastructure as one of the key directions of the state's work under conditions of full-scale war. Completely destroyed facilities require not merely repair but major reconstruction or the construction of new medical institutions, which entails significant resources and time. In parallel, work is underway to support existing institutions and ensure their resilience against new threats.
Attacks on civilian and logistics infrastructure
The damage to medical facilities fits into a broader context of targeted strikes on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure. As a result of the attacks, educational institutions and hospitals are regularly affected, and logistics facilities are also deliberately targeted. According to available data, strikes have been carried out against warehouses and production facilities of Ukrainian retailers and logistics companies, including Epichentr, Rozetka, Nova Poshta, Silpo, Novus, as well as facilities and warehouses linked to Liqui Moly, Puma, and Intertop. The cumulative damage to civilian infrastructure continues to grow and requires systematic restoration.
