In Odesa, law enforcement agencies thwarted the preparation for a contract killing of a judge. The criminal scheme, aimed at seizing the victim's funds, was uncovered thanks to the operational work of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the participation of a serviceman who agreed to cooperate with the investigation.
Details of the exposure
According to the investigation, the suspect was personally acquainted with the judge and, driven by mercenary motives, decided to organize his murder. To implement the plan, the man offered the serviceman a reward of $40,000. However, the executor only pretended to agree to the offer and immediately informed law enforcement about the criminal plot.
Subsequently, the serviceman acted under the control of SBI employees, which allowed the special services to fully monitor the preparation for the crime. The suspect carefully planned his actions, breaking the process down into several stages. At the final stage, the executor was supposed to purchase a weapon and commit the attempted murder.
Moment of arrest
SBI operatives arrested the organizer of the crime at the moment of transferring part of the funds allocated for the purchase of weapons. This became the decisive evidence of the suspect's guilt. He was officially informed of suspicion of organizing an attempted contract murder for mercenary motives.
The man's actions are classified under Part 3 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 15, and items 6 and 11 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Context of events
This is not the only case related to the preparation of contract killings uncovered by law enforcement recently. A few days ago, an attempt on the commander of the "Charter" corps, Igor Obolensky, was exposed. A 69-year-old resident of Kharkiv has been detained on suspicion of preparing this crime, who, according to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), was recruited by Russian special services.
