Huawei is preparing to introduce the Mate 90 flagship smartphone lineup, which, even before its official announcement, is attracting enormous attention from specialized experts and mobile photography enthusiasts. According to official teasers published by the manufacturer, one of the main features of the new products will be a fundamentally new approach to capturing images at long distances using unique hardware solutions.
Innovative Ruiying Z10 camera module
The main sensation was the massive Ruiying Z10 telephoto lens, which mounts directly onto the smartphone's camera block. Unlike standard optical attachments, this device is a standalone module equipped with its own large 1-inch CMOS sensor. This approach blurs the line between compact system cameras and modern flagship mobile devices, taking zoom photography to a completely new professional level.
Technical specifications and zoom capabilities
The new module features a physical focal length ranging from 9.1 to 91 mm, which is equivalent to 24–240 mm for a full-frame camera. This guarantees continuous optical zoom from 1× to 10× without the loss of image quality typical of digital scaling. A variable aperture from f/2.0 to f/4.5 allows for flexible control over exposure and depth of field when shooting in a wide variety of lighting conditions.
Compatibility and market release dates
According to preliminary data from official promotional materials, the Ruiying Z10 removable module is targeted for use with the most premium modifications of the lineup — the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design. Compatibility with base versions of the devices remains unconfirmed for now. The official presentation of the entire Mate 90 series will take place on October 1, 2026, and retail sales are scheduled to start immediately after the official event.
