Tonight, on October 14, 2026, Russian forces launched a large-scale combined attack using ballistic missiles and strike drones against Ukraine's critical infrastructure. Key energy hubs in several regions of the country, including the capital, came under fire. According to officials, the massive raid targeted vital life-support facilities.
Attack on Capital's CHPs and Regions
Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky reported that the main target of Russian ballistics was the energy grid facilities in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and the surrounding regions. In Kyiv itself, all three municipal combined heat and power plants (CHPs), which provide the capital with heat and electricity, sustained damage from nighttime impacts. In addition, the enemy struck critical infrastructure facilities in the Kyiv region that power not only the city itself but also a significant part of Ukraine's central regions.
Scale of the Strike and Civilian Casualties
According to operational services, during the nighttime raid, Russian forces used 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 strike drones and loitering munitions. Beyond the capital region, railway facilities in five oblasts came under attack, though timely evacuation prevented casualties in transportation. However, residential areas could not be spared: the nighttime attacks on Kyiv killed three people and injured 27 others with varying degrees of severity. Power outages have been recorded in the city.
Violation of Agreements and Restoration Works
Experts note that this massive strike was carried out contrary to the so-called "energy truce" previously announced by US President Donald Trump. Emergency services and repair crews immediately began cleanup and emergency recovery operations at the impact sites, but the extent of the damage to the energy infrastructure is assessed as extremely serious, threatening the stable passage of the heating season.
