Incident in Mayaki village, Odesa region: one dead and victim with 55% body burns

Explosion of an explosive device in Odesa district: first day results

On August 11, 2026, an incident involving the detonation of an explosive device was recorded in the village of Mayaki, Odesa district, Odesa region. According to preliminary data, one person died as a result of the incident, and a 44-year-old local resident sustained serious injuries. Law enforcement officials, investigative services, and the State Emergency Service (SES) are working at the scene. The identity of the deceased is currently being established through forensic and genetic examinations.

Condition of the injured and medical assistance

According to information from local medical institutions, the injured woman was taken to a specialized medical facility with a diagnosis of a mine-explosive injury. Doctors recorded thermal burns of I–II degree, covering approximately 55% of the body surface, including the face, torso, and limbs. At the moment, the patient's condition is assessed by medical personnel as moderate severity, and necessary therapeutic measures are being carried out.

Investigation and legal aspects

Law enforcement agencies of the Odesa region have initiated procedural actions regarding the incident. A criminal case has been opened to establish all circumstances of the incident, qualify the events, and determine the extent of the damage caused. In accordance with the norms of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and legislation on martial law, all data on injuries and casualties are recorded and entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations (URPI).

The village of Mayaki is located near a strategically important transport artery — the M-15 highway (Odesa — Reni). In connection with the incident, patrol and monitoring measures have been strengthened in the area of the settlement.
