The first foldable smartphone from Apple, called the iPhone Duo, has been equipped with a set of features unavailable in classic iPhones, according to BGR, as cited by RBC-Ukraine. The large inner display, redesigned hinge, and expanded multitasking allow you to work with several apps at once, while a number of exclusive solutions make the device noticeably more functional than regular mobile phones.
Titanium body and an almost invisible crease
Developers have managed to solve the main problem of foldable smartphones — the noticeable bending of the screen. The iPhone Duo's body is made from polished Grade 5 titanium, and the hinge features a 3D-printed coating. As a result, the crease on the inner display is virtually invisible and cannot be felt to the touch. The gadget is protected to the IP68 standard, and the outer display is covered with Ceramic Shield 2 glass, which, according to the manufacturers, is three times more scratch-resistant.
Under-pixel camera and matte display
Unlike the outer screen with its classic 12-megapixel camera, the inner foldable display hides the front FaceTime module directly beneath the pixels. The camera only becomes visible during a call or when taking selfies, leaving the entire large screen completely free for viewing content. For the first time in nearly 20 years, Apple has added a matte coating to the inner display of a smartphone, which serves several purposes at once — from reducing glare to protecting against fingerprints.
An iPad alternative: iOS 27.1 and Apple Pencil
The iOS 27.1 operating system turns the iPhone Duo into a full-fledged iPad alternative. The device supports use with the Apple Pencil stylus, allows you to open two apps at the same time, and adapts the interface to the unfolding angle. In a half-folded state, the lower part of the panel becomes a convenient touch remote or keyboard, expanding use cases beyond those of a regular smartphone.
Software shooting tricks without a telephoto lens
Even without a separate telephoto lens, the iPhone Duo has gained unique software shooting advantages. The Smart Take feature automatically captures a frame when it detects a good pose of a person, without setting a timer. Duo Preview displays the frame image on the outer screen for the person being photographed, while Kid Cue plays fun Snoopy animations on the outer display to draw children's attention to the lens. The Duo FaceTime mode allows you to show the interlocutors on both screens at once.
According to sources, the price of the foldable iPhone Duo starts at $2,000, which confirms the device's positioning as a flagship solution of a new class. The combination of hardware and software innovations indicates that Apple views the foldable form factor not as an experiment, but as an independent line with its own set of exclusive features.
