Apple's first foldable smartphone, dubbed the iPhone Duo, has already disappointed some buyers. Since sales began, owners have been massively reporting a number of issues: from cracks on the inner screen and severe overheating to unoptimized applications and weak cameras. We look into what is wrong with the gadget and how the company responded to the complaints.

Cracks on the Inner Screen: The Main Complaint

The most serious problem, according to users, is the appearance of cracks on the inner panel. Owners note that before breaking, they hear a characteristic crunch in the hinge mechanism, after which a large crack appears along the bend line, and part of the screen stops responding to touch. iFixit specialists previously pointed out that the cause is mechanical stress or friction of the internal layers of the display panel. Apple confirmed to journalists that they are aware of the issue, which they say affects "a small number of devices," and urged customers to contact service centers.

Overheating and Unoptimized Apps

A separate point of dissatisfaction was the severe heating of the body. The new cooling system with a vapor chamber removes heat from the A20 Pro processor to the body, making the smartphone hot even during normal news browsing or wireless charging. The second irritant was unoptimized applications: most popular banking utilities, social networks, and games are displayed with black bars on the sides, and the Safari browser leaves too much empty space on the foldable display.

Software Bugs in iOS 27.2

Users are also recording software glitches. The iOS 27.2 system version demonstrates bugs in camera alignment, the operation of the Dynamic Island cutout, and random sensor triggers. Against this background, it seems that the software part of the gadget is not yet ready for its hardware features.

Cameras: A Disappointment for Pro Owners

The camera system also received criticism. Buyers who previously used Pro series models are unhappy with the lack of a telephoto lens and the poor quality of digital zoom, which loses clarity significantly after 2x magnification. The under-display 4-megapixel camera provides only basic quality for video calls, which users consider unacceptable for a premium-segment gadget. Recall that the module includes a 12-megapixel external selfie camera, a 4-megapixel sensor under the inner screen, and a 48-megapixel main module with an ultra-wide-angle lens.

What's Next

Against this background, there is hope that in future generations of the iPhone Duo, engineers in Cupertino will take into account the identified shortcomings and improve the quality of the expensive gadget. In the meantime, the first owners of the foldable iPhone have to put up with cracks, heating, and compromises in software and cameras.
