Residents of Kyiv are facing an inevitable change in the city's public transport sector. Starting July 15, the cost of a single trip on the metro, trams, and trolleybuses will rise to 30 hryvnias. This decision follows a long period without tariff indexation—the last price adjustment occurred back in 2018.
The Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) explains that the increase is necessary to bring fares closer to economically justified levels. The main reasons lie in the significant rise in operating costs: electricity and fuel prices are increasing, as well as the labor fund for staff.
Discount system for regular passengers
Authorities understand that a one-time price hike could impact the budgets of regular users, so a flexible discount system has been introduced. Now, the price of a single trip will depend directly on the number of units purchased on a transport card.
For those who plan their trips in advance, monthly passes are available. They are calculated for different numbers of trips—ranging from 46 to 124. When purchasing such tickets, the cost per trip drops to approximately 23.3–23.6 hryvnias, which is significantly cheaper than the single-ride fare.
There is also an option for the most active users—a unlimited pass for all types of municipal transport. Its cost will be 3,656 hryvnias.
What will happen to purchased tickets
The administration has paid special attention to passengers who managed to buy tickets before the new tariffs took effect. Trips purchased before July 14 will remain valid until September 14, 2026.
It is important to note that unused trips will not be lost after this period expires. Their value will be automatically converted into a monetary equivalent and credited to the balance of the transport card. This will allow passengers to pay according to the new tariffs while preserving their funds.
