The night of August 5 became another test of resilience for the capital of Ukraine. Russian forces once again employed a combined strike method, unleashing missiles and drones upon Kyiv. Fires broke out across the city, recorded in several administrative districts, while air raid sirens shattered the night's peace for residents.

Chronology of the Strike: From Missiles to Drones

Events unfolded rapidly. Around 00:20, an air raid alarm was declared in Kyiv and most regions of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force almost instantly detected missile launches, followed by a loud series of explosions in the city.

The attack was not a one-off. Explosions were reported again at 00:32 and 00:41. Then, after a brief pause, a new wave of strikes followed at 01:07 — the enemy launched ballistic missiles again. Starting from 01:20, active air defense systems were heard over the capital, indicating Russia's attempt to attack the city with loitering munitions (drones).

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA), the consequences of the attack were recorded in the Obolon, Sviatoshyn, Desna, and Holosiiv districts, as well as in the suburb — the Kyiv-Sviatoshyn district.

The situation varied across different parts of the city:

  • Obolon District: A hit on an office building and a non-residential area was recorded. Fires also broke out in warehouse facilities at two addresses.
  • Desna District: A warehouse building is burning here.
  • Holosiiv District: Initially, a fire in a single-story warehouse was reported. Later, the KMVA clarified that a warehouse facility was destroyed. Preliminary information suggests people may be trapped under the rubble.
  • Kyiv-Sviatoshyn District: Non-residential premises are burning in the suburb. The city mayor described the situation as a "major fire".

Casualties and Incidents

The attack caused damage not only to buildings but also to people. Vitali Klitschko reported that an ambulance was damaged at one of the sites due to repeated explosions. The driver of the vehicle sustained injuries.

Additionally, in the first hours after the attack, alarming information emerged about a fire in a 20-story residential building, allegedly caused by a direct missile hit. However, this information was later unconfirmed. Nevertheless, reports of a fire in another residential building remain current.
