On September 23, as a result of Russia's massive attack on Kyiv, the capital's railway stations sustained no damage, although the movement of several trains was disrupted. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia. According to the company, the UZ monitoring centre closely tracked the situation throughout the attack, which made it possible to keep passenger trains running. Thus, the city's key transport artery remained operational even under air threat.
How the stations operated during the attack
At Kyiv Central Station and Darnytsia Station, passenger boarding and alighting was carried out via underground crossings. This procedure is provided for under the yellow air-threat level when targets are detected near station complexes. As Ukrzaliznytsia emphasises, it was precisely this protocol that allowed the safety of passengers and staff to be ensured without halting train services. At the time of the report, the capital's railway stations had sustained no damage.
Train delays and schedule changes
Despite the movement being maintained, delays arose across the network. The trains running furthest behind schedule are those operating from central Ukraine, Zaporizhzhia and the Dnipro region. Kyiv City Express suburban trains are running the full loop with delays of 10–30 minutes. Ukrzaliznytsia also altered the movement of a number of trains, as confirmed by Ukrainian media citing the operator.
Strikes on infrastructure: petrol stations and a pharmaceutical plant
In the morning of September 23, Russian drones struck two petrol stations in different districts of Kyiv — Holosiivskyi and Darnytskyi. The roof caught fire at one of the stations, resulting in one person being injured. In addition, a station of the Ukrnafta network was completely destroyed following the strike; according to available data, this is already the sixth attack on the company's facilities in recent weeks. Staff were not injured, as they were in shelter at the time of the shelling. It is also known that a strike was carried out on the Darnytsia pharmaceutical plant in Kyiv; there are no fatalities among the plant's workers.
Attack aftermath and recommendations for passengers
According to preliminary data, at least two people were killed and 22 were injured as a result of today's attacks on Kyiv. Ukrzaliznytsia urged Ukrainians to stay away from railway facilities in the coming days and beyond, and to head to shelter at any level of alert. The company emphasises that the priority remains the safety of passengers and staff amid ongoing shelling.
